So, for those who are interested, I have the presentation I used today in class to present my work-in-progress paper about ONE OK ROCK. It's a Prezi - if you click on 'More' next to the arrow, it'll give you the option for fullscreen and you can just click or hit the spacebar to move along the presentation.
Keep in mind a few things - one, this is geared towards linguistics students, and was accompanied by me speaking and adding details. As such, there are some assumptions that have been made and terminology used that you may be unfamiliar with, and this presentation is sort of a 'bare bones' aid for my talk.
Also, I know Moody's research was done in 2001, and is talking about Jpop and not Jrock. However, he was measuring the Oricon charts, and since ONE OK ROCK has ranked in them before, they are thus the type of band that Moody looked at during his study. Additionally, no one has focused on just Jrock, so you know, gotta use what's actually available for past literature research.
Finally, this is a work in progress - there's still a number of 'intuitions' on my part that I need to find more evidence for, and this is my own interpretation, which likely contains errors. I've not done a thorough interpretation of the lyrics other than in 'Dreamer'. There's also a lot more that could be done in-depth, but this is not an in-depth study, and much of that may be out of abilities to do (for example, my Japanese skills do not allow me to gauge the connotations and thus compare the 'mood' of the Japanese vs English passages, and I do not have the musical theory background necessary to determine whether changes in rhythm and beat are significantly different between English and Japanese passages).
But, all of that aside - please, feel free to leave your own interpretations, disagreements, notes, questions and general response. Most likely, those will be invaluable for me and allow me to get a better picture of what I am looking at since you guys are the OOK experts, not me :) Thanks to all of you who have already helped me out with previous questions, it was incredibly helpful.
