2012.05.04@06:13 pm - Mr. Gendai Speaker eng subs
Hi I subbed Mr. Gendai Speaker here:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rvZnO8kQbpQ

The lyrics are from Jpopasia.com.
As you can see, I'm using a VERY basic program lol.
I only used Aegisub once for Liar and it crashed after that.
Maybe someone will upload better subs with karaoke effects... Well enjoy!
If there's any mistakes, let me know,

A good bit later than I originally intended to present it to you guys, but for those who are interested, here is the paper I submitted for my class, in PDF format.

Codeswitching in the Japanese band ONE OK ROCK

Due to the word limit and the fact that many of your responses came in after I was already done and had to turn it in, I wasn't able to include many of the ideas that you guys shared with me. Still, thank you so much for all your input because some of it was invaluable in guiding me towards the right train of thought, or phrased perfectly something I had been struggling with, or was simply brilliant insight, even if it didn't get a chance to come up in the paper. You guys were thoughtful, and I hope to be able to return to many of the points you made for future research.

Thanks again!

2012.01.13@12:20 pm - [Request] Video Link?
I was wondering if anyone had any information on this video

It just seems like a regular message video, so surely there should be a link to its original somewhere?

Or at least does anyone know what is from/for?

Thanks^^

Hey guys, so I have a few questions for you in order to continue my paper -

1. Does anyone know where to find the interview where Taka talks about how he used more Japanese in the recent album in order to communicate better with the fans after the earthquake?

2. As fans, what do you think are the messages that OOR sends out with their songs, and how do you feel about them? (and the more specific the examples, the better) Does the language they use affect that at all?

3. How do you think Japanese fans respond to these messages that OOR sends out? What does OOR mean to them? Does the language OOR use affect that at all?

This is just to get a general feel of the reactions that OOR evokes. Thank you guys so much for all your previous help - it has been, no kidding, crucial to developing this. Your comments have been amazingly supportive, and I'm so glad I found such a great community with such interest and love for the band and respect for other fans.

So, for those who are interested, I have the presentation I used today in class to present my work-in-progress paper about ONE OK ROCK. It's a Prezi - if you click on 'More' next to the arrow, it'll give you the option for fullscreen and you can just click or hit the spacebar to move along the presentation.

Keep in mind a few things - one, this is geared towards linguistics students, and was accompanied by me speaking and adding details. As such, there are some assumptions that have been made and terminology used that you may be unfamiliar with, and this presentation is sort of a 'bare bones' aid for my talk.

Also, I know Moody's research was done in 2001, and is talking about Jpop and not Jrock. However, he was measuring the Oricon charts, and since ONE OK ROCK has ranked in them before, they are thus the type of band that Moody looked at during his study. Additionally, no one has focused on just Jrock, so you know, gotta use what's actually available for past literature research.

Finally, this is a work in progress - there's still a number of 'intuitions' on my part that I need to find more evidence for, and this is my own interpretation, which likely contains errors. I've not done a thorough interpretation of the lyrics other than in 'Dreamer'. There's also a lot more that could be done in-depth, but this is not an in-depth study, and much of that may be out of abilities to do (for example, my Japanese skills do not allow me to gauge the connotations and thus compare the 'mood' of the Japanese vs English passages, and I do not have the musical theory background necessary to determine whether changes in rhythm and beat are significantly different between English and Japanese passages).

But, all of that aside - please, feel free to leave your own interpretations, disagreements, notes, questions and general response. Most likely, those will be invaluable for me and allow me to get a better picture of what I am looking at since you guys are the OOK experts, not me :) Thanks to all of you who have already helped me out with previous questions, it was incredibly helpful.
